Meddlefield Craft Bar
2016
a drinking establishment focusing on the art & craft aspect of drinking in hope to promote responsible drinking through its appreciation and spatial experience.
Concept

As people from different walks of life share the same goal of getting pleasure in drinking, it is like a concoction, where different ingredients being put together and perceived as one entity in the end. It begins with clearly defined layers at first, gradually responds, and allows each entity to enter each other’s space in which boundaries are blurred and eventually becomes an overwhelmed mixture.
The curves derived from one of the characteristics of a concoction, “blurred boundaries”, which allows the users to experience fluidity and boundless space.
The definition of the boundary is interpreted not only as visual boundaries, but also the identity of the spatial elements and the users as well.

Programmes
The programs focus on the art and craft aspect of drinking, in response to the current site which has both F&B and arts sectors. Customers who come in are allowed to mix their own drinks, which blurs the boundaries between the customers and bartenders. Beforehand, upon entering there will be a space telling people about the story behind the creation of each drink. After drinking, customers are encouraged to share their story and experience on the coasters and eventually compiled to be a concoction of people’s life story on the wall.

Concept

When the concoction happens: the main space, which consists of the bar and seating area, is visually merged with the retail and tasting area, located right behind the curve wall..these spaces are separated merely by a sheer curtain, creating the blurred effect.

An interactive area on the mezzanine floor to mix and amplify the sound of it through the counter, enhancing the whole appreciation of the drink.
